TransNet or Proposition A, the half-cent sales tax for transportation improvements in San Diego County. Voters countywide approved Proposition A, the 40-year extension of TransNet. Proposition A provides TransNet dollars that are critical to help reduce areas growing traffic congestion. In 1987, San Diego region voters approved Proposition A which initiated the TransNet program a half-cent sales tax to fund a variety of important transportation projects throughout the region. This 20-year, $3.3 billion transportation program expires in 2008. TransNet funding is combined with state and federal dollars to improve the regions transportation network. The 40-year TransNet extension will help fund major highway expansion projects along Interstates 5, 8, 15, and 805 as well as State Routes 52, 54, 56, 67, 76, 78, 94, 125, and 905.
