NASA Weather Accident Prevention
Approximately one-third of commercial and general aviation accidents are attributed in part to adverse weather. The NASA Aviation Safety Program's Weather Accident Prevention (WxAP) project is developing tools and technologies to: Improve pilot awareness of hazardous weather conditions encountered by the aircraft en route; and help pilots make strategic decisions to avoid or lessen the impact of potential weather hazards. GOAL: Develop enabling technologies to reduce weather-related accident causal factors by 25 to 50 percent and turbulence-related injuries by 25 to 50 percent by the year 2007.
