NEW 1948 Nationalisation WC Bude with Stanier tender (226R2685) - .During the locomotive trials of 1948 the then fledging British Railways Board experimented with different locomotives to see how they performed on tracks outside their normal region. To facilitate this Bulleid’s West Country “Bude” was coupled to a Stanier tender in order to use the water troughs on the other regions (the Southern had no need for these owing to its shorter routes). To celebrate the 60th Anniversary of not only the locomotive trials but the formation of British Railways, 2008 limited edition models of “Bude” coupled to a Stanier tender, complete with numbered certificate have been specially prepared and are presented in a commemorative pack.
