It's a sad but true fact that winter has a negative effect on some people's desire to soak up Oklahoma's outdoors. While it may not be the best time for boating, swimming and camping, it doesn't mean that you can't go fishing. To trout, winter is the best season of all. Bass and crappie go dormant, but you can find rainbow and brown trout active and eager. Trout fishing is a year-round sport in two areas, the Lower Mountain Fork River in McCurtain County and the Lower Illinois River, south of the Tenkiller Dam in Sequoyah County.
