Team River Runner (TRR), established in August 2004 by kayakers in the Washington, DC, area, is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization providing rehabilitative care to all wounded veterans with water-based recreational sports. Working in partnership with The Wounded Warrior Project and Disabled Sports USA, TRR provides modern-day rehabilitative therapy through pool clinics that prepare veterans for whitewater kayaking and other water-based activities outside of the clinical environment. TRR helps veterans recuperating at Walter Reed Army Medical Center (WRAMC) and other military and VA hospitals around the country find health, healing, and new challenges through whitewater boating. While the focus of TRR's work is on soldiers, TRR also provides water-based recreational opportunities for their family members as well.
