The Crystal River is one of the last free-flowing rivers in the west, tumbling more than 35 miles through scenic terrain to join the Roaring Fork River two miles below Carbondale.

San Miguel River: The San Miguel is a free flowing river that runs west-southwest from headwaters above Telluride. This is an average river, the fish are not too difficult to catch and the rapids are generally Class II-III. While it may not stand out this is a very attractive river due to its natural beauty and relative lack of people.

Animas River: The Animas is a large river by southwestern Colorado standards, and there is no dam interrupting its flow from Silverton to Farmington, New Mexico. This river is well known for its frequent rapids and large fish.

Blue River: The Blue is a medium-size river and one of the most scenic Gold Medal fisheries in Colorado. Besides offering gold medal fly fishing, there can be some entertaining whitewater when the flows are right.

Big Thompson River: The Big Thompson starts high in Rocky Mountain National Park and eventually falls to the plains where it meets the South Platte. It has very steady fishing during the summer, especially on dry flies. The rafting and kayaking in this river is not famous only because the flows are rarely high enough. But if it does, the Big Thompson Canyon can have some very exciting whitewater.
